DEFINITION OF LEARNING

Definition of Learning

Uk believes that learning is a personal, lifelong process that leads to transformation. It is fueled by curiosity and motivation, taking place in a supportive environment rich in engagement, interaction, and reflection. Learning is shaped within authentic contexts and results in the development of new understandings and skills for all learners.

THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The English Language

Our primary focus is to empower our students with the skills and confidence to become competent speakers and writers of English. Language is about effective communication and navigating a globalized society. Our teaching prioritizes practical language use, fostering fluency, accuracy and cultural understanding. While certifications are a natural outcome of our students’ knowledge, our true measure of success lies in their ability to confidently and effectively communicate in English.

PRESCHOOL

Pre-school / EduCare

At the UK School of English, we place great emphasis on our preschool classes, focusing on both the cognitive and emotional development of the young child. Learning a language at such a tender age is a wonderful opportunity, with benefits that will last a lifetime. We strongly support movement, play, exploration, and the expression of the child through art. Our Finish program “Kide Science” and our program “Artful Thinking for pre-school” make learning a unique experience.

ARTFUL THINKING

Artful Thinking

At Uk, we proudly incorporate Artful thinking, an educational approach developed by Harvard’s Project Zero, into our curriculum. We are the only English language school in Greece that has implemented Artful Thinking in its main program. It utilizes art to cultivate thinking dispositions, encourage the use of thinking routines, promote social awareness and enable students to develop a profound appreciation for the world of art. By engaging with diverse artworks, our students not only improve their English in a creative context but also develop thinking habits such as observation, interpretation, questioning and reflection.

THE ART XP DIARY

The ArtXp diary

In our Artful Thinking program, we provide our students with their very own ArtXp Diary – an innovative accordion book designed to capture their creative thinking journey. The ArtXp diary serves as a canvas for our students to express their ideas, reflect and make their thinking visible. Additionally, their ArtXp Diary becomes a unique 3D mindmap, allowing them to visually organize their thoughts and explore connections in a tangible and engaging way.

Teaching students to think in disruptive and generous ways

At uk, our teaching and learning experience is based on a Culture of Thinking.

This program, exclusively designed for our students, cultivates a vibrant culture of thinking within our learning community. Cultures of Thinking goes beyond language learning; it nurtures essential thinking dispositions and empowers students to embrace curiosity, explore diverse perspectives and develop their analytical and problem-solving skills.

Through collaborative discussions, interactive activities and thought-provoking projects, our students are inspired to think critically, question assumptions and reflect on their learning journey. Our Wonder Wall, is an interactive wall, an integral part of our day-to-day lessons, a learning space which our students revisit and reflect on their ideas.
